I’m pretty excited for the return of college football this week. The rivalries, big games, and Saturday afternoons on the couch with a Big Daddy IPA are sublime. My Wolverines are back in contention thanks to Jim Harbaugh, so I’m pretty amped about the new season. Since football and beer go hand in hand, I created a fun little GIF to promote Big Daddy IPA by Speakeasy Ales & Lagers on social media.

Millions of Americans have been drafting fantasy players and trash talking with friends about their favorite teams. I wanted to capture a little bit of that excitement on social media to promote Big Daddy IPA. Last season I tucked a football under Big Daddy’s arm. That design was well received, but I wanted to push myself a little further and utilize video or animation.

A light bulb went off when I remembered seeing a football in the brewery. I could have just snapped a photo of it next to a beer, but that’s too easy. I wanted some action to grab and hold people’s attention. So I decided to make the football spin forever, which required a little luck and magic. It wasn’t easy getting the ball to spin perfectly upright in a very small spot, but thankfully I only needed a fraction of a second on video. The result is mesmerizing, fun, and unexpected.
