Every year I go back to Michigan at least once, sometimes twice, to visit family, friends, and of course a few breweries. In August of 2011 I was headed south on US 69 with my wife. Our final destination was Indianapolis to see her parents. Just south of Lansing I realized we would be passing Dark Horse Brewing in Marshal, MI, around lunchtime. Marshal has always been off the beaten path for my annual visits, so I couldn’t pass up the opportunity.

We sat in the pub, had lunch, and I tried a few beers. It was a short visit, no tour, and I only took the one photo you see above, which is one of my personal favorites from the past two years. The Dark Horse Brewing mug club is very extensive. Handmade ceramic mugs hang from almost every empty surface on the ceiling and walls. There’s probably over a 1,000. If you’re ever in the area I highly suggest a visit.
