Jenner is perched over the mouth of the Russian River, two hours north of San Francisco on Highway One. It’s quaint, quiet, surrounded by parks, ranches, and unfettered wildlife. Small cottages cling to the hills, occupied by only 136 residents. A small-secluded house on the coast in Jenner was just what we needed. No cell service, noisy neighbors, or rush hour tension for four days. It had been seven months since my last vacation. Long weekends spent traveling more than relaxing doesn’t count. Highlights include the tide pools at Salt Point and Shell Beach, Fort Ross State Historic Park, Fort Ross Vineyard, spotting migrating whales, and watching seals relax on the beach.
